Although this is a snaffle bit with no shanks, its wire mouth is more severe than a smooth-mouth snaffle bit.It is not usually used as an every-day bit. Instead it is used to polish a lax performance or enhance a trained horse's sensitivity because the uncomfortable nature of the wire adds more bite to remind him of his obligation to respond quickly and to keep him from leaning on the bit. O-ring design slips through the mouth more easily than a Dee ring snaffle. The twisted wire, therefore, has the possibility of sawing across the horse's bars if used by untrained hands.
Copper helps encourage bit acceptance as well as enhance salivation and relaxation of the horse's jaw, poll, neck, and spine. For lateral movement, this loose-ring snaffle applies direct pressure concentrated in just one side of the mouth.
Recommended to use with a bit guard.
Should be used with consideration. Not for heavy hands or inexperienced riders.
