They live in dens, sheltered from wind, but not from cold. Domesticated dogs are sometimes not equipped with the same seasonal insulation because they either live in a warm house or they have been bred to have very little hair or not to shed (thus no undercoat). Your dog can get cold, even in the house. Therefore the warmth and comfort of your furniture or bed will tempt him. If you don't like dog hair on the couch or your sheets, a heated dog bed is the answer. Warm beds come in every shape and size. Most have a heating insert that warms the bed in the winter but can be turned off in the summer. Some have orthopedic foam to protect the elbows and joints of older arthritic dogs while providing therapeutic heat. A Cheap Pet Bed Is No Bargain They pack down, lose their comfortable loft, begin to smell like a dog, and become unattractive very quickly. Look for quality filling and stain-resistant, washable outers. Your pet's bed will last much longer and be well worth the price. Don't Overlook the cat beds. Small dogs like them too. |
